Math crafts use a variety of skills

Math crafts are perfect for providing students with the practice they need for basic math skills but they also encourage fine motor development. Students need to color, trace, cut and paste.

As well as math and fine motor development, students are using their comprehension skills. Following written instructions is an important skill. How many times have students raced ahead to complete an activity without really knowing what to do? By reading and following the visual instructions, your students should easily be able to put together their math craft.

Independence in centers

Visual instructions also mean that your kids can work independently at centers giving you time to work with small groups of students. This works well if you’re including a math craftivity as part of your weekly math activities.

Differentiate your activities

Every classroom has a range of math abilities. You’ll have some students still consolidating their addition facts while others need to practice subtraction.

You might want your students to practice adding two digit numbers. In every classroom, there will be some students who are still not ready for regrouping. Then you’ll have others who have grasped the concept well and are adding and subtracting three digit numbers. With the 15 differentiated options included, you can choose what’s best for individual students.

If you’re working with different year levels, it’s even more important that you can choose appropriate activities without having to add significantly to your work load. Just print the math pages that you need, the actual craft part stays the same.
